Six signature programs run on a regular cycle and are open to all members.

Research Symposium
Most years · October–November
Our flagship event, held across Victorian universities since 2007. Plenary lectures, parallel disciplinary sessions and a career workshop, bringing together doctoral researchers, early-career scholars and senior academics from across Australia.

Career Pathways Forum
Held in June
Practical guidance on the transition out of the PhD — academic job markets, industry research roles, visas and settlement in Australia.

Jinzhuan Lecture Series
Since 2015 · one or two a year
The association's longest-running academic strand. Senior scholars based in Australia, industry practitioners and early-career founders speak on research practice, career development and cross-disciplinary questions, with no limit on field. 10 sessions are documented from 2015 onwards; the series paused in 2020.

Scholar Interviews
Since 2015 · 27 pieces so far
Long-form interviews with Chinese scholars in Australia and with early-career researchers, on how research actually gets done, career paths, and what building a life in Australia involves. Three strands run under it: Focus on Chinese Scholars for senior academics, the online series begun during the pandemic, and a strand where early-career researchers are themselves the subject.

Doctors Speak
Since 2018 · 4 sessions
Public lectures where doctoral researchers explain their own work. Unlike the Jinzhuan series, which brings in senior academics, the speakers here are current or recent doctoral students, and the subjects are ones the public already wonders about: vaccines, food safety, biomedicine.

Since 2021 · 5 issues
The written counterpart to Doctors Speak: members’ published papers rewritten for a general reader. It also carried the chemistry special issue from the 12th Research Symposium.
