About CAPS

Governance

CAPS is run by a volunteer team of Chinese scholars in Australia. The executive committee works through secretariat, outreach, talent and events functions, with an advisory committee providing guidance.

Bodies

  1. Executive Committee

    A volunteer team elected by the membership, responsible for day-to-day operations and events. Roles recorded in past rosters include President, Executive Vice President, Secretary General and Treasurer.

  2. Advisory Committee

    More than thirty senior scholars and experts in Australia who guide the direction of CAPS without taking part in day-to-day operations.

  3. Legal status

    CAPS was founded in 2006 and formally registered in Victoria in 2012. It is an incorporated not-for-profit association registered in Victoria, Australia.

Areas of work

  1. Academic events

    The Research Symposium, the Golden Brick seminar series, the Focus on Australian Chinese Scholars interviews, and the PhD Talk series.

  2. Talent, innovation and entrepreneurship

    Recruitment and project events run jointly with governments, research institutes and innovation parks across China.

  3. Community work

    The campus NODE initiative, founded in 2017, supporting wellbeing and cross-disciplinary exchange among doctoral researchers.
