Mission & History
The Chinese Association of Professionals and Scholars, Australia is a not-for-profit organisation serving Chinese doctoral researchers and scholars in Australia. Founded in 2006 and registered in Victoria, we build a platform for them to meet each other and senior experts, and a bridge between academic innovation and applied translation.

Twenty years of CAPS
Our 20th anniversary and the 16th Research Symposium will be held at the University of Melbourne on 16–17 October 2026.
Four signature programs

Jinzhuan Lecture Series
The association's longest-running academic strand. Senior scholars based in Australia, industry practitioners and early-career founders speak on research practice, career development and cross-disciplinary questions, with no limit on field. 10 sessions are documented from 2015 onwards; the series paused in 2020.

Scholar Interviews
Long-form interviews with Chinese scholars in Australia and with early-career researchers, on how research actually gets done, career paths, and what building a life in Australia involves. Three strands run under it: Focus on Chinese Scholars for senior academics, the online series begun during the pandemic, and a strand where early-career researchers are themselves the subject.

Doctors Speak
Public lectures where doctoral researchers explain their own work. Unlike the Jinzhuan series, which brings in senior academics, the speakers here are current or recent doctoral students, and the subjects are ones the public already wonders about: vaccines, food safety, biomedicine.

PhD Reels
The written counterpart to Doctors Speak: members’ published papers rewritten for a general reader. It also carried the chemistry special issue from the 12th Research Symposium.
